Just couldn’t pass up the chance to share this photo. One of our long term customers sent in the photo of a Burns sensor in operation for 23 years. 
We are proud of this record of reliability. Where were you in the Mid 1980’s when this sensor was installed?

How long do RTD’s last? Should I replace it at regular intervals? Those are questions I receive frequently and unfortunately there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The best method is to check the sensor calibration at regular intervals and note any changes in the ice point resistance. If 5 cycles are repeated with no change then the interval can be doubled. I recently received a request to quote a replacement RTD that was first installed in the late 80’s to monitor the temperature of cooling water in a small pipe and it had been delivering an accurate temperature for 20+ years. A scheduled maintenance cycle included this measurement point for replacement otherwise who knows how much longer it would have lasted.
